The Moment We’ve All Been Waiting For…

The winning patterns of Our Young Designer Competition

After an inspiring journey of creativity, community and collaboration, Something Good Studio is proud to announce the Top 4 winning designers from the 2024/25 Young Designer Competition — an initiative celebrating the bold ideas and untapped potential of South Africa’s emerging design talent.

This year marks a groundbreaking evolution of the competition, following the merger of sister brands Something Good Homeware and Romaria Knitwear. For the first time ever, winning designs will be translated across both homeware and knitwear, expanding the creative possibilities and opening new avenues for young designers to reach audiences worldwide.

At its heart, the Young Designer Competition is more than just a showcase — it's a launchpad for creative entrepreneurship. With products rolling out throughout the year — some already available — this project provides tangible opportunities for young designers to see their work come to life, stocked and sold globally.

"The Young Designer Competition was something I just took a shot at in 2022, thinking 'it’s not something I could actually win' but ended up surprising myself. The impact of winning has been huge – it’s boosted my confidence as a designer and to back myself more. It has led to really special collaborations and work opportunities - it’s come full circle to joining the Something Good & Romaria team as their Creative Assistant. It’s worth it no matter if you win or not because it’s a platform to approach/learn from a new brief as a young designer, and not just any brief, but one that celebrates diversity and exploration."
