Young Designer Throw - Interconnected by Mpumelelo Nyuswa

‘Interconnected’, designed by Mpumelelo Nyuswa, formed as part of our 2022 Young Designer Throw competition. A winning design of 1310 entries within South Africa!

The design is inspired by Kuhlangene which means connected in IsiZulu. It is a play of “Iziqhaza” or African ear piercings. Mpumelelo interpreted those patterns in a modern context. The circular and curved shapes convey a continuous cycle of life, a youthful spirit, and the fact that connection to people is the most important aspect of being human.

Mpumelelo Nyuswa is a young interior designer by profession and a freelance graphic designer, born and raised in Durban. He values the interconnection between collaborative design and the impact it makes on society.
